A note to customers regarding Redcare alarm systems

21/02/2024

BT have recently made the decision to pull their Redcare alarm signalling service from the market. This will come into effect on 1st August, 2025.

We estimate that around 100,000 customers and businesses will be affected by this and will need to find suitable alternatives for their alarm systems.

Redcare alarms provide constant monitoring of a BT telephone line that links an installed alarm system on a customers/businesses’ premise to an alarm receiving centre, ensuring customers get fast and effective help when they need it the most.

Getting a suitable alternative to Redcare is vital for ongoing protection if you have relied on it in the past. It isn’t just a case of installing a run-of-the-mill alarm in its place, and with all the alarm systems on the market, it’s easy to get lost and pick something that may not potentially be the right choice for your insurance/business needs.

Any replacement for Redcare will need to tick two boxes:

1. The system needs to be installed by a company regulated by the National Security Inspectorate (NSI) which incorporates the National Approval Council for Security Systems (NACOSS) or a company regulated by the Security Systems and Alarm Inspection Board (SSAIB).

2. The system will need to be maintained in full working order under an annual maintenance contract with an appropriate alarm maintenance company or installer regulated by the National Security Inspectorate (NSI) which incorporates the National Approval Council for Security Systems (NACOSS) or a company regulated by the Security Systems and Alarm Inspection Board (SSAIB). There may be a need to provide evidence of these maintenance checks if a claim is filed.

While many companies’ offering alternative systems to Redcare are anticipating a lot of customers making the switch from Redcare, we are advising customers who currently rely on the BT service to get in touch with us to ensure suitable cover is sorted in time. The closer to the 1 August 2025 deadline comes, the more likely installation lead times will grow and product shortages will begin to occur.

If you are unsure about suitable replacements, whether they meet the standard requirements or if you would like assistance finding appropriate cover, please get in touch with Vista North West on 01244 662025 or email: info@vnwl.co.uk
